NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and HPCL Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi to collaborate in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen. The MoU was signed by Shri V. V. Sivakumar, GM(NGEL), and Shri Girish Ghildiyal, GM(HMEL), in the presence of Shri Mohit Bhargava, CEO(NGEL), and Shri Harak Banthia, CFO(HMEL).

Under the MoU, NGEL and HMEL will collaborate in sourcing 250 MW of Round-The-Clock (RTC) renewable power to meet the requirements of HMEL. They will also explore opportunities in the green hydrogen business and its derivatives, such as green ammonia and green methanol.

NTPC is India’s largest power utility with a total installed capacity of 72 GW, including joint ventures and subsidiaries. To increase its renewable energy portfolio, NTPC has formed a fully-owned subsidiary called NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), which will focus on renewable energy parks, projects, and businesses related to green hydrogen, energy storage technologies, and round-the-clock renewable power.

HPCL Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Mittal Energy Investments Pvt Ltd. It is an integrated refining and petrochemical company in India. HMEL operates the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery with a capacity of 11.3 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) in Bathinda, Punjab.

This collaboration between NGEL and HMEL aims to contribute to India’s green energy and green hydrogen objectives and support the government’s efforts towards energy transition.
