Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased in the Laptap landslide in Arunachal Pradesh and 50,000 rupees for those injured. On Tuesday, 14 people were killed in a massive landslide triggered by heavy rain in Sagalee Sub-division in Papum Pare District.

On the direction of Prime Minister a central team lead by Union Minister of state for Home Kiren Rijiju is in Arunachal Pradesh. Mr. Rijiju yesterday made survey of the flood and landslide hit areas in and around twin state capital city.

Mr Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu will be making aerial survey of the affected areas at various places in the state today along with the central team to assess the quantum of damages caused by the natural catastrophe.

Mr. Rijiju will also hand over the ex-gratia amount to the victim family of Laptap today. Mr Rijiju, who arrived in Itanagar yesterday evening, said that all the central agencies will be pressed in to action in restoring roads in the state and it will be done on war footing.

Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has announced a financial assistance of 10 crore rupees as immediate help to the state government. He has also directed the PGCIL to immediately look after the reported damages of the transmission lines in the state and make necessary arrangements for its restoration at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in PMO and DONER Jitendra Singh took an emergency meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Disaster Management officials on the flood situation in the state.

Dr Singh has directed the concerned ministries to extend all possible assistance to Arunachal Pradesh. He gave specific directives to immediately release the SDR Funds to the state to mitigate the situation.
