Manisha Choudhary IPS promoted as DIG- Haryana
Ms Manisha Choudhary IPS (Haryana 2011) presently on deputation with Govt. of India as DIG- CBI has been promoted from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in Level-13A of the Pay Matrix.
The position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is one of the most pivotal leadership roles within India’s premier investigative agency. A DIG in the CBI is entrusted with supervising major investigations, coordinating multiple branches, and ensuring that high-profile and sensitive cases are handled with accuracy, integrity, and adherence to due process. As a mid-senior leadership post, the DIG functions as a crucial link between ground-level investigators and top-tier decision-makers in the organization, ensuring that operational strategies align with legal requirements and national priorities.
A DIG–CBI typically oversees several Superintendent-level officers, monitors the progress of complex cases, and provides guidance on investigative techniques, evidence-gathering standards, and inter-state or inter-agency collaboration. Their responsibilities often extend to reviewing case files, authorizing specific investigative actions, implementing internal checks to prevent procedural lapses, and maintaining the overall quality and credibility of investigations under their jurisdiction. Given that the CBI handles corruption cases, economic offenses, cybercrime, high-impact criminal matters, and inquiries involving public servants, the DIG plays a critical role in maintaining investigative integrity and ensuring timely case disposal.
In addition to operational duties, a DIG–CBI is involved in administrative management, including staff deployment, training oversight, and resource coordination across specialized units. They may also contribute to policy discussions, reforms, and modernization initiatives aimed at strengthening the agency’s effectiveness. Frequently, DIGs represent the CBI in inter-agency meetings, judicial briefings, or coordination sessions with state police forces, highlighting the strategic importance of the position.
Given the national implications of many CBI investigations, the role demands exceptional analytical ability, ethical judgment, leadership qualities, and a strong command of legal procedures. The DIG rank serves as a gateway to even higher responsibilities within the agency, reflecting both professional merit and the confidence of the Government of India in the officer’s capability to handle some of the country’s most sensitive and consequential investigations.
Indian Bureaucracy News wishes Ms Manisha Choudhary the very best.
