Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma has assumed charge as Director (Finance) of NHPC Limited, a premier “Navratna” power company under the Government of India, on 17th October 2025. A seasoned finance professional with over three decades of experience, Shri Sharma has been an integral part of NHPC’s financial leadership for more than 25 years, contributing significantly to the company’s growth, financial prudence, and operational excellence.

Before taking over as Director (Finance), Shri Sharma served as the Finance Head of the Commercial Division of NHPC and as the Chief Financial Officer of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NHPC. He continues to serve as a Nominee Director on the Board of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), reflecting his continued involvement in guiding NHPC’s strategic renewable initiatives.

A Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Shri Sharma also holds a Diploma in Information Systems Audit (DISA) from ICAI, where he secured an All India 3rd Rank. His professional distinction extends beyond NHPC; he was elected as an Executive Body Member of the Faridabad Branch of the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of ICAI during 2004–07 and served as its Chairman in 2006–07. Shri Sharma began his journey with NHPC in July 2000 as an Accounts Officer at the Corporate Office in Faridabad. He played a pivotal role in NHPC’s Initial Public Offer (IPO) and the subsequent listing of the company on Indian stock exchanges, contributing to the successful execution of one of NHPC’s landmark financial milestones.

His tenure includes key postings at Regional Office, Banikhet and Dhauliganga Power Station, where he played a critical role in the large-scale restoration of the Dhauliganga Power Station after the devastating Uttarakhand flash floods of 2013. At Pakaldul, he oversaw major contracts for dam and powerhouse construction, implemented robust financial control systems in a non-ERP environment, and addressed contractual and GST-related complexities with precision.

Throughout his distinguished career, Shri Sharma has been deeply involved in NHPC’s financial management during all stages of project development—from survey and investigation to project execution and operation. His leadership has been marked by strong fiscal discipline, efficient treasury operations, regulatory compliance, and a commitment to sustainable financial practices.
