Hisar, July 2025: In a significant move toward strengthening international academic collaboration, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar, has signed an educational and technical cooperation agreement (MoU) with Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, Tanzania. This landmark partnership aims to promote research, training, and mutual academic exchange programs between the two prestigious institutions.
The MoU was formalized as part of a broader vision led by the Government of Haryana to expand global outreach in the fields of veterinary sciences and animal husbandry. LUVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Jindal highlighted that this collaboration is not merely an academic venture but a step aligned with Haryana’s strategic mission to build stronger trade and technical relationships with African nations, particularly Tanzania.
Haryana’s Vision for Global Presence
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jindal said, “This agreement is a reflection of the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini Ji, who has continuously supported initiatives to place Haryana on the global map. This MoU reinforces the commitment to empower our farmers, scientists, and entrepreneurs to explore international opportunities.”
The agreement was catalyzed by a recent high-level delegation visit to Tanzania, organized under the Chief Minister’s guidance. The delegation included senior Haryana policymakers, agricultural scientists, progressive farmers, and entrepreneurs from the livestock and food sectors. This cross-border initiative has laid a solid foundation for long-term bilateral cooperation in agriculture and veterinary sciences.
Strengthening Academic and Technical Capacity
As a first step under this MoU, LUVAS will soon launch an academic exchange program designed to bring Tanzanian students and faculty members to Hisar for advanced training in modern veterinary techniques. In return, LUVAS experts will visit Tanzania to train local veterinary professionals and support the livestock community with technical expertise and innovations.
This academic exchange is expected to play a critical role in enhancing the skills of veterinary professionals, improving livestock productivity, and driving innovation in both India and Tanzania.
In a major academic initiative, LUVAS is also planning to roll out a “sandwich program”, allowing students to complete portions of their studies both in India and Tanzania. This will create a globally integrated curriculum and give students first-hand exposure to international best practices in veterinary sciences.
Advancing Research and Innovation
LUVAS is also working on establishing a Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, which will become a hub for cutting-edge research, disease diagnostics, and technical knowledge exchange. This facility will not only benefit Haryana and Tanzania but could become a resource for veterinary researchers and professionals across South Asia and Africa.
Prof. Jindal expressed gratitude to the Haryana Government for its proactive support and added, “Under the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister, we are committed to ensuring that LUVAS emerges as a global leader in veterinary sciences. This partnership with Sokoine University opens a new chapter for Haryana in international academia and innovation.”
A Pathway to Strengthened Indo-African Relations
Beyond the academic scope, this MoU also holds promise for deepening Indo-African relations, particularly in the sectors of education, agriculture, and business development. The agreement reflects a growing recognition of the role of people-to-people ties, knowledge sharing, and joint research in building sustainable and productive partnerships between India and Africa.
The LUVAS-SUA MoU is expected to serve as a model for future collaborations between Indian and international institutions in the veterinary and agricultural sectors. It not only enhances educational standards but also paves the way for global outreach, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.
