Shri Laltu Halder WBPS, presently Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP), Ranaghat Police District, is transferred and appointed as Addl. SP – Traffic, Purba Bardhaman.
The Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) – Traffic, Purba Bardhaman is responsible for overseeing traffic management and road safety enforcement across the district of Purba Bardhaman district under the West Bengal Police. The officer supervises traffic units, coordinates with local police stations, and ensures smooth vehicular movement on key highways, urban corridors, and rural roads within the district.
Purba Bardhaman, with its mix of urban centers, industrial zones, agricultural belts, and national highways, experiences varied traffic challenges. The Addl. SP – Traffic formulates strategies to reduce congestion, prevent accidents, and improve road discipline. Regular enforcement drives against violations such as drunken driving, overloading, overspeeding, and helmet or seatbelt non-compliance are conducted under the officer’s direction.
The role also includes accident analysis, black-spot identification, traffic diversion planning during festivals or VIP movements, and coordination with civic authorities for infrastructure improvements like signage, signals, and road markings.
