NMDC Limited is India’s largest iron ore producer and a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Steel. Established in 1958, NMDC plays a crucial role in meeting the country’s iron ore demand, supplying key raw material to the steel industry. Shri Krishna Kumar Thakur is an accomplished officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), brings with him over two-and-a-half decades of rich and diverse experience in human resource management, administration, and organizational leadership across Indian Railways and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). Known for his strategic HR vision and people-centric approach, Shri Thakur has consistently contributed to strengthening institutional frameworks, enhancing workforce productivity, and fostering progressive industrial relations.

Over the course of his distinguished career, Shri Thakur has held several key assignments in Indian Railways, where he managed critical HR functions across major divisions including Solapur, Bhopal, and Mumbai. In these roles, he dealt with a wide spectrum of personnel matters, ranging from recruitment and training to employee welfare and industrial relations. His ability to navigate complex administrative environments and address workforce challenges has earned him recognition as a capable and forward-thinking HR leader.

One of the defining highlights of his career was his tenure as Chairman of the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Western Railway. In this capacity, Shri Thakur successfully oversaw large-scale recruitment drives, facilitating the induction of approximately 12,000 employees. Managing such a massive recruitment exercise required meticulous planning, transparent processes, and robust execution mechanisms—areas where his leadership proved instrumental. His efforts not only ensured timely recruitment but also strengthened the credibility and efficiency of the recruitment system.

Shri Thakur has also demonstrated significant expertise in handling complex industrial relations. His tenure has been marked by a balanced approach that aligns organizational objectives with employee welfare. By promoting dialogue, transparency, and fair practices, he has contributed to maintaining harmonious workplace environments even in challenging circumstances. His initiatives have often focused on improving employee engagement, boosting morale, and enhancing overall productivity.

In addition to his contributions within Indian Railways, Shri Thakur has gained valuable international exposure through his association with RITES. During this period, he was involved in an international train operations project in Saudi Arabia, which provided him with insights into global HR practices and cross-cultural workforce management. This experience has further enriched his professional outlook and strengthened his ability to manage diverse teams in dynamic environments.

His leadership capabilities were further demonstrated during his tenure as the Head of HR at Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL). At KRCL, Shri Thakur played a pivotal role in streamlining HR policies and procedures, ensuring greater efficiency and consistency in personnel management. His initiatives helped modernize HR systems and align them with contemporary organizational needs.

Prior to his current role, Shri Thakur served as Director (HR) at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), where he led several transformative initiatives across HR, legal, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) domains. His tenure at BHEL was marked by structural reforms, including the restructuring of HR functions, introduction of progressive policy changes, and implementation of a uniform incentive scheme. He also championed multi-skilling initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce capability, flexibility, and retention.

A notable contribution during his time at BHEL was the introduction of standardized guidelines for labour sheds, which significantly improved the mobilization and retention of workmen across project sites. These measures not only enhanced operational efficiency but also improved working conditions, reflecting his commitment to employee welfare.

Academically, Shri Thakur is an alumnus of Tilka Manjhi University, Bhagalpur, where he completed his postgraduate studies in Literature. He further pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Human Resources from the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), equipping him with strong theoretical foundations and practical insights in HR management.

With his extensive experience across Indian Railways and leading CPSEs, Shri Krishna Kumar Thakur continues to be a key contributor to building robust, inclusive, and performance-driven organizational cultures.
