The new Civil Enclave at Kanpur Airport in Uttar Pradesh is set to be inaugurated on May 26th. The inauguration will be carried out by Shri Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel. Prior to the inauguration, they will also unveil the statue of Late Madhavrao Jivajirao Scindia in Mainpuri.

Here are the key features of the new terminal building:

  1. Size and Cost: The new terminal building covers an area of 6,243 square meters, which is 16 times larger than the existing terminal. It has been constructed at a project cost of Rs. 150 Crore.
  2. Passenger Capacity: The new terminal is equipped to handle 400 passengers during peak hours, a significant increase from the previous capacity of 50 passengers.
  3. Check-In Counters: There are 8 check-in counters, ensuring efficient and expedited check-in processes for passengers.
  4. Conveyor Belts: The terminal has 3 conveyor belts, with one located in the Departure Hall and two in the Arrival Hall, facilitating smooth baggage handling and collection.
  5. Concessionaire Area: A spacious concessionaire area covering 850 square meters is available, offering a diverse range of retail and dining options for travelers.
  6. Accessibility Features: The terminal has provisions for tactile paths, ensuring accessibility and ease of navigation for passengers with visual impairments.
  7. Parking Facilities: On the city side of the terminal, there are 150 car parking spaces and 2 bus parking spaces, providing ample parking facilities for commuters.
  8. Apron and Taxi Track: A newly developed apron is suitable for parking three A-321/B-737 types of aircraft. Additionally, a new link Taxi Track of 713m X 23m has been constructed.

The event will also be attended by General (Dr.) V. K. Singh (Retd.), Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Road Transport and Highways, Shri. Satish Mahana, Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Shri Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi,’ Minister for Industrial Development, Export Promotion, NRI and Investment Promotion, Members of Parliament, and other senior dignitaries.

Kanpur is known for its leather, textile, and defense production industries, as well as its historical and holy spots. The city is home to renowned educational institutions like IIT Kanpur, National Sugar Institute, and UP Leather and Textile Technology Institute, attracting a large number of air travelers. With improved facilities, Kanpur aims to be connected to more cities within Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.

The terminal building of the new civil enclave at Kanpur Airport incorporates various sustainability features, such as a double-insulated roofing system, provision of canopies for energy saving, LED lighting, low heat gain double glazing unit, rainwater harvesting, water treatment and sewage treatment plants, and the use of recycled water for landscaping. Additionally, a 100 KWp solar power plant has been installed to meet GRIHA-IV ratings, a national green building rating system.

The façade of the terminal building reflects the architecture of Kanpur’s famous JK Temple, both on the city and airside. The interiors of the terminal showcase local themes related to textiles, leather industries, and notable figures from Kanpur, such as poet Shyamlal Gupta and sage Maharishi Valmiki. The design aims to integrate the culture and heritage of Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh, providing visitors with a sense of the region’s rich culture and history.
