Shri Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi presently Judge- Patna High Court has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, known for his legal clarity and scholarly temperament, was born on 28th May 1968 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. A student of science in his formative years, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Electronics from the reputed St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad, under Gujarat University. Thereafter, drawn by a passion for law and justice, he pursued and earned a Master of Law degree with a specialization in Commercial Law from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad.
He entered the legal profession in September 1991, enrolling at the Bar and beginning his practice at the High Court of Gujarat. His sharp legal mind and ethical conduct quickly gained recognition, leading to his appointment as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor in the Gujarat High Court, where he served with distinction for seven years until March 2006. Alongside his practice, he contributed significantly to legal scholarship, serving as Honorary Joint Editor of the Gujarat Law Herald for two years—a role that reflected his deep engagement with jurisprudential thought.
Justice Pancholi also dedicated over two decades (from December 1993) to legal education, serving as a visiting faculty member at Sir L.A. Shah Law College. His commitment to nurturing future legal professionals complemented his broad litigation experience, which spanned diverse domains such as criminal law, civil disputes, service law, family matters, property and banking law.
He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on 1st October 2014 and confirmed as a Permanent Judge on 10th June 2016. In recognition of his balanced approach and thorough understanding of the law, Justice Pancholi was transferred to the Patna High Court, where he took oath as a Judge on 24th July 2023. Throughout his career, he has been admired for his intellectual rigor, judicial integrity, and unwavering dedication to the rule of law.
