The Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, is hosting the “International Conference on Recent Advances in Bio-energy Research – 2023” (ICRABR – 2023) from October 9 to 12, 2023. This marks the fourth edition of the international conference, taking place at the institute campus in Kapurthala, Punjab, and is set to bring together stakeholders from the bioenergy sector, including government, industry, academia, and research.
The conference’s overarching themes include Biomass Resource Management, Biomass/Waste Conversion to Energy, Biomass Valorization/Waste to Value-added Materials/Products, Modeling of Bio-energy Systems, and Biorefinery and Biohydrogen. Plenary and Technical Sessions are scheduled to delve into these conference themes.
The inauguration of the conference and the publicity and awareness drive for the National Bioenergy Programme of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy will be conducted by Shri Bhagwanth Khuba, Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy and Chemicals & Fertilizers. The event will also see the presence of Shri Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, New & Renewable Energy, and Prof. K K Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee.
The conference will feature oral and poster presentations from registered participants globally, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The final day of the conference includes a visit to a Bioenergy Plant.
The focus on bio-energy research stems from the recognition of the challenges posed by energy security and environmental protection due to the exhaustive use of fossil fuels. The conference aims to explore various facets of bio-energy, including biohydrogen, biodiesel, bioethanol, biomethanation, bio-refinery, biomass gasification, biomass cookstove, carbonaceous materials, and more.
