The Moraji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) is organizing a mega ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ at the NCC Parade Ground in Hyderabad on May 27th, 2023. The event is being held to commemorate 25 days until the International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on June 21st, 2023. The announcement was made by Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, during a press conference.

The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga (IDY) is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam,’ which emphasizes the concept of the world as one family. Elaborate plans are being prepared to celebrate the event, including the creation of an Ocean Ring of Yoga on June 21st. This will involve major yoga demonstrations at ports and on ships, with the participation of many countries. Yoga demonstrations will also take place in countries along the Prime Meridian line, as well as in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Indian research bases in Svalbard, Arctic, and Antarctica are expected to join the festival.

During the Yoga Mahotsav in Hyderabad, thousands of participants will perform the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) to promote holistic health and well-being. The event aims to showcase how people can come together for a sense of universal brotherhood and camaraderie, regardless of their individual differences. The response from the people of Hyderabad has set the stage for a grand celebration of the International Day of Yoga in Jabalpur.

Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and DoNER, G Kishan Reddy, highlighted the significance of yoga for a healthy mind and body. He mentioned that the Yoga Mahotsav will not only revive interest in yoga among the general public but also contribute to yoga-driven tourism in the region.

Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai, Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development and Ayush, mentioned that the Yog Bharatmala on the International Day of Yoga will involve participation from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Coast Guard, and Border Roads Organization. Efforts are being made to train people in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) in over 2 lakh villages in India.

The Yoga Mahotsav will be attended by various dignitaries, including Union Minister of Culture, Tourism & DoNER, G Kishan Reddy, and Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development and Ayush, Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai, along with other officials. The event will be conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ishwara Basavaraddi, the Director of MDNIY.
