Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Health and Family Welfare, chaired a roundtable meeting with CEOs of the pharmaceutical industry in India during the 8th International Conference on Pharma and Medical Device Sector. Ms. S Aparna, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, was also present at the meeting.

Dr. Mandaviya commended the growth of the pharmaceutical industry and emphasized the need to focus on quality, affordable manufacturing, research, and innovation to maintain India’s position as the ‘Pharmacy of the World.’ He urged stakeholders to seize the current opportunities, highlighting the positive outcomes of initiatives like Production Linked Incentive schemes and upcoming drug parks. He stressed the importance of competitiveness to consolidate India’s presence in the global pharmaceutical market.

The Union Health Minister reiterated the government’s support for the industry and expressed a willingness to collaborate. He emphasized the need for government and industry to work together for holistic growth and invited stakeholders to present their suggestions on pricing, regulations, policies, and strategies. The government would consider these suggestions to provide further policy support and foster growth.

Ms. S Aparna, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, emphasized the potential future growth of the industry and encouraged representatives to collaborate and present their perspectives in the four aforementioned categories. This collective effort would help policymakers and the government create a stronger ecosystem for the pharmaceutical sector.

The roundtable meeting brought together senior leadership from over 60 companies, including key players in both national and international markets. Several government officials, including Shri N Yuvaraj (Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals), Shri Awadhesh Kumar Choudhary (Senior Economic Advisor), Smt. Vinod Kotwal (Member Secretary, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority), DCGI Dr. Rajeev Raghuvanshi, Chairman NPPA Shri Kamlesh Pant, as well as industry stakeholders, representatives from academia, and associations also attended the conference.
