The CBI court in Panchkula has found Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Chief of Dera Sacha Sauda guilty in a rape case. A former follower had accused Ram Rahim of repeatedly raping her inside the DSS campus near Sirsa in Haryana in 1999. An FIR to this effect was registered in 2002. Ram Rahim and the management of the sect have denied the allegations all throughout the time since the case was registered.
Punjab and Haryana including Chandigarh and Panchkula, are on high alert to deal with any situation on the law and order front. Several companies of the paramilitary forces have reached the twin states, with tight security arrangements being put in place. Army has been put on hold too for any eventuality . Buses and trains have been cancelled , educational institutions closed , Government offices are closed , mobile and internet services have also been shut down.
