Shri Gopalakrishnan Ganesan IRAS (2010) presently Director in the Ministry of Steel has been given extension for a period of two years beyond 03.01.2026 and up to 03.01.2028 . Shri Gopalakrishnan Ganesan is on central deputation w.e.f. 13.03.2021.

It oversees production, distribution, pricing, imports, and exports of steel and its raw materials. The Ministry aims to make India a global leader in steel production, ensuring sustainability, innovation, and efficiency. It supervises major Public Sector Undertakings such as SAIL, RINL, and NMDC, and promotes research, technology upgradation, and capacity expansion to support infrastructure and industrial growth in line with the National Steel Policy 2017.
