Indian Bureaucracy PSU Update: Shri Ghan Shyam Singh IRSEE presently General Manager, Eastern Railways has been appointed as
Member (Traction), Railways Board.
Shri Ghanshyam Singh, has been appointed as new Member (Traction) Railway Board and ex officio Secretary to the Government of India with effect from 21 March 2017. Shri Singh, an officer of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineering (IRSEE) of 1979 batch,and is a Gold Medalist in B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Allahabad University.
Prior to this assignment he was General Manager, Eastern Railway, Kolkata. He worked as Chief Electrical Engineer, Northern Railway. Shri Singh has also worked in various other important posts at Railway Board level & all over Indian Railways e.g. General Manager/ RITES, Executive Director (Efficiency & Research) / Railway Board / New Delhi ,Divisional Railway Manager / Bhopal , Chief Electrical Engineer (Construction)/ Northern Railway and Chief Electrical Engineer/ Eastern Railway
Shri Singh executed several innovative projects including planning for Rail Infrastructure Development of Power Plant & Refineries, Rail Electrification, Multi Modal Transport Logistic Park, Development of MicroProcessor based tokenless system for PRS, Installation of First Travelator of India on IR System at Habibganj Railway station, designed & commissioned batterycum-25 KV OHE operated shunting-cum-training car at Sealdah, critical implantation of overhead equipment & elimination of infringement of structures in ER system for improving safety in train running, commissioning of Dankuni Traction & Grid Sub Station etc. . He is also credited to have designed the high voltage distribution system for rural electrification in Uttarakhand.While working as Chief Electrical Engineer in ER, Shri Singh developed the methodology for power procurement from the private producers for the first time in IR. Later it has become the order of the day and adopted by Railway Board for implementation all over Indian Railways. He has also designed HVDS (High Voltage Distribution System) for rural electrification in the state of Uttaranchal.
He was awarded twice by the Hon’ble Railway Minister for his outstanding service. Shri Singh has avid interest in sports & other cultural activities also.
