Dr Shyam S Agarwal, IAS (RJ:1980) has been appointed as  Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes as Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs vice Shri Arun Jha, IAS (BH:1981) on his appointment as Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

Shri Shyam S Agarwal is a B.Sc graduate and PG in Business Administration and a Ph.D in Economics.

Starting his Indian bureaucracy career in 1982 in Rajasthan cadre as S D O of Pali His varied experience includes serving as Additional Collector of Jodhpur (1983-85), Collector of Banswara, Managing Director in Rajasthan State Warehousing Corporation, Jaipur, Secretary in Public Works Department (PWD) Jaipur (2002-03), Principal Secretary in  Administrative Reforms & Coordination Jaipur (2005-06). He has served in Central Cadre as Additional Secretary & Divisional Commissioner in Ministry of  Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Secretary in Ministry of Home Affairs (2013-15).
