The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has announced a new Quality Control Order (QCO) for ‘Flux Cored Solder Wire,’ effective six months from its notification in the E-Gazette on September 18, 2023.

This QCO pertains to a critical component used in soldering electronic components, automobiles, telecommunications, and various engineering industries. Ensuring the quality of flux cored solder wire is paramount for product quality and safety, particularly in electronics and automobiles.

The implementation of this QCO not only safeguards consumers but also elevates manufacturing quality standards in India while curbing imports of sub-standard products.

To support small and micro industries and facilitate Ease of Doing Business, relaxed timelines of three months for small units and six months for micro units have been provided.

These measures, alongside the development of quality testing labs and product manuals, contribute to creating a robust quality ecosystem in India. The Government’s goal is to produce world-class, high-quality products domestically, aligning with the vision of an “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” championed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

DPIIT is actively working to establish a comprehensive quality control framework for various industrial sectors under its purview. The focus extends to key products like smart meters, welding rods, cookware, utensils, fire extinguishers, electric ceiling fans, solar DC cables, fire survival cables, and domestic gas stoves.

In collaboration with BIS and stakeholders, DPIIT is developing more than 60 new QCOs covering 318 product standards. The implementation of these QCOs will prohibit the manufacturing, storage, and sale of non-BIS certified products, with penalties specified under the BIS Act, 2016. Violators could face imprisonment and substantial fines.

DPIIT’s efforts aim to elevate product quality, protect consumers, and promote ‘Made in India’ products on both domestic and global fronts.
