The Ministry of Defence executed two contracts for the procurement of 697 Bogie Open Military (BOM) Wagons from Jupiter Wagons Limited at a cost of ₹473 Crores and 56 Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment (MMME) Mark II from BEML Ltd at a cost of ₹329 Crores. These acquisitions, falling under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, signify a significant investment of ₹802 Crores in enhancing the military’s capabilities.

The BOM Wagons, designed by the Research Design and Standard Organization (RDSO), are specialized railcars crucial for the mobilization of Army units. They facilitate the transport of light vehicles, Artillery Guns, BMPs, Engineering Equipment, and more, ensuring rapid and simultaneous induction of units and equipment into operational areas during conflict situations. Additionally, they support peacetime movements for military exercises and unit transfers between stations.

The Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment (MMME) Mark II, essential for compliance with the amended Protocol-II on Convention in certain Conventional Weapons, will be supplied by M/s BEML Ltd. This equipment is designed to operate cross country with a complete load of stores, minimizing time and manpower required for minefield marking. Built on an in-service High Mobility Vehicle, it incorporates advanced mechanical and electrical systems, enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Army during minefield marking operations. These procurements underscore the commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, fostering indigenous manufacturing and private sector participation in defense production.
