Shri Brij Mohan Mishra IAS (AGMUT 2008) has been appointed as Joint Secretary-
Department of Commerce for an overall tenure of five years upto 16.11.2026 vice
Shri Amitabh Kumar IRS (C&IT 1992) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet at Joint Secretary Level (Level 14).
Shri Brij Mohan Mishra , known for his administrative versatility and strategic vision, brings over a decade and a half of experience across key governance sectors including commerce, finance, education, urban administration, and district management.
An alumnus of Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, and King George Medical University, Lucknow, Shri Mishra holds a B.Sc. in Zoology and an M.B.B.S. in Medicine, both with First Class. His strong academic background in science and medicine has provided him with analytical precision and a problem-solving approach that have shaped his decision-making throughout his administrative journey.
Before his current assignment, Shri Mishra served as Director, Department of Commerce, where he played a vital role in trade policy formulation, export promotion, and strengthening India’s global trade engagement. His efforts contributed to enhancing trade facilitation and policy coordination within the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, aligning with India’s expanding international economic objectives.
In his earlier postings, he held several key leadership positions in the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and Arunachal Pradesh, including Deputy Commissioner (South and East Delhi), Additional Commissioner (North and East Delhi Municipal Corporations), Secretary, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and Additional Director, Directorate of Education. Each of these assignments showcased his administrative depth and his ability to handle urban governance, civic planning, and financial management with effectiveness and transparency.
As Deputy Commissioner in Arunachal Pradesh (Lohit District) and Secretary, Civil Aviation Department, Shri Mishra worked extensively to improve administrative efficiency and strengthen regional connectivity. His tenure in these geographically challenging regions highlighted his commitment to public service and his capacity to deliver results under diverse administrative contexts.
In the finance and taxation domain, his service as Additional Commissioner (Sales Tax) in Delhi and Secretary (Finance) in Arunachal Pradesh added to his expertise in fiscal management, taxation reforms, and public revenue systems. These roles further prepared him for his subsequent responsibilities in the Department of Commerce at the Central level.
A dedicated public servant and a respected figure in Indian Bureaucracy, Shri Brij Mohan Mishra is widely appreciated for his calm composure, analytical insight, and proactive governance style. His appointment as Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, marks yet another milestone in a career defined by professionalism, integrity, and developmental focus.
