Shri Brajesh Kumar Tripathy is a distinguished civil servant known for his integrity-driven leadership and technical excellence. He assumed charge as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), Coal India Limited (CIL), Kolkata, on 16th November 2022, bringing with him more than twenty-five years of experience in infrastructure planning, project execution, and administrative oversight across the Indian Railways. Shri Tripathy completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from MNREC, Allahabad (now MNNIT) and later pursued M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, demonstrating a strong academic foundation that has shaped his professional rigor and commitment to quality. His career in the Indian Railway Service of Engineers provided him diverse experience in planning, designing, and implementing infrastructure projects critical to India’s transportation network. His role in project execution has always emphasized safety, operational stability, and optimal resource utilization.
Before joining Coal India Limited, he served as Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of the Asansol Division, Eastern Railway—one of the busiest operational divisions in the country. In this leadership role, he ensured efficient operations, asset management, and stakeholder coordination, while also guiding multiple teams engaged in execution, maintenance, and administrative functioning.
One of the most notable phases of his service was his earlier tenure as Chief Vigilance Officer (Engineering) in Eastern Railway. During this period, Shri Tripathy played a key role in introducing systemic vigilance reforms, strengthening preventive vigilance frameworks, and promoting process transparency. His approach to vigilance has always emphasized improving systems rather than merely identifying lapses—reflecting a forward-looking philosophy aligned with national governance reforms.
