Shri Brijendra Pratap Singh presently Director in-charge (Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants) Director in-charge (Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plant), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has been selected as Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Aluminium Company Limited.
Shri Brijendra Pratap Singh, currently serving as the Executive Director (Works) at Durgapur Steel Plant, is a seasoned professional with over 32 years of extensive experience in steel plant operations. A B. Tech graduate in Mining Machinery from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, he started his career at SAIL in 1989 at Bhilai Steel Plant’s Iron Ore Mine.
Throughout his career, Shri Singh has demonstrated remarkable leadership and technical expertise, contributing significantly to key operational milestones. At Bhilai Steel Plant, his efforts were instrumental in ramping up production from modernized facilities such as Blast Furnace-8, Universal Rail Mill, and Bar & Rod Mill. He further introduced innovative practices at Bokaro Steel Plant, including a three-tier inspection and maintenance system, and successfully executed complex projects like the Converter Shell replacement at SMS-2 in record time.
As Executive Director (Works) at Durgapur Steel Plant since September 2020, Shri Singh has continued to drive operational excellence. His leadership was crucial in executing the replacement of all three Converter Shells in record time, while simultaneously increasing production from the MSM unit. Under his stewardship, Durgapur Steel Plant achieved outstanding performance during FY 2020-21, including 100% Hot Metal Production, 101% Crude Steel Production, and record exports of saleable steel, maintaining profitability amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
His unwavering commitment to excellence continued into FY 2021-22, where under his leadership, the plant achieved its best-ever production figures in Crude Steel, Sinter, total Caster Steel, and Finished Steel production. Shri Singh’s vision and determination have positioned Durgapur Steel Plant as a leader in the steel industry, setting new benchmarks in performance and productivity.
