Shri Ashwani Kumar IAS (Assam-Meghalaya 2010), presently Director- Directorate of Information Technology, Electronics & Communication (DITEC), Assam, given additional charge of Chief Data Officer – Assam State Data Policy, 2022.
Shri Ashwani Kumar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2010 batch from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has consistently demonstrated a dynamic blend of technical expertise and administrative leadership in his service spanning over a decade. An alumnus of IIT Madras, he holds a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering, laying a strong analytical foundation for his civil service journey.
Throughout his career, Shri Kumar has handled a wide range of responsibilities in both the Government of India and the Assam state administration. His early assignments as Assistant Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner in Dhemaji and other districts gave him hands-on experience in land revenue and district administration.
He later held crucial posts in the domains of Urban Development, Information Technology, and General Administration. His role as Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district marked a critical period in local governance and public service delivery. Shri Kumar also served as OSD to the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, bringing him into the core of ministerial functioning and policy coordination at the central level.
In various undersecretary and deputy secretary-level roles, he contributed to the formulation and execution of programs in communications, technology, and public administration. Since November 2017, he has continued to serve the Assam-Meghalaya cadre in key assignments.
With a calm disposition and a problem-solving mindset, Shri Ashwani Kumar is recognised for his commitment to public welfare and governance reform. His experience reflects a balance of grassroots administration and policy-level engagement.
