Government of India has launched Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT ) 2.0 on 1 October 2021. Pey Jal Survekshan in cities under AMRUT 2.0 is a challenge process to assess the compliance of service level benchmarks with respect to quality, quantity and coverage of water supply in the city. This will also assess the steps taken in reduction of Non Revenue Water through water clusters, rejuvenation of water bodies and skill development. In its first phase Pey Jal Survekshan will cover 500 cities selected under AMRUT.
NITI Aayog had conducted third party evaluation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes including AMRUT. As per the report of the evaluation, AMRUT scheme was assessed under the broad parameters such as relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, impact and equity.
As per the assessment, performance of AMRUT on the parameters has been found satisfactory.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched in 500 cities on 25 June 2015, with an aim to provide universal coverage of water supply in 500 selected AMRUT cities and substantial improvement in sewerage coverage.
Recently, Government has launched Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 on 1 October 2021 aimed to create water secure cities, providing universal coverage of water in all statutory towns and 100% coverage of sewerage/ septage management in 500 AMRUT cities. As regards sewerage/ septage management of other cities, they will be covered under Swachh Bharat Mission -Urban (SBM-U) 2.0, launched on 01 October 2021.
