Shri Amrit Tripathi, IAS (Uttar Pradesh 2008), a seasoned and accomplished civil servant, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh. He was previously serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority, Jhansi, where he played a key role in promoting industrial growth and regional development. His vast administrative experience, spanning over a decade and across sectors, stands as a testament to his commitment to public service and governance excellence within the Indian bureaucracy.
An academic achiever, Shri Tripathi completed his B.Sc. in Zoology from Kumaon University, Nainital, followed by an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. His strong grounding in science and research reflects in his methodical and data-driven approach to administration.
Since joining the Indian Administrative Service in 2008, Shri Tripathi has held numerous key positions across the state including District Magistrate of Shahjahanpur, Azamgarh, Sitapur, Bhadohi, Bagpat, Pratapgarh, and Sant Kabir Nagar, as well as Special Secretary in crucial departments such as Planning, Finance, Personnel, Agriculture & Cooperation, and Industries. His diverse portfolio also includes serving as Director in the Economics & Statistics Department and the NEDA (New & Renewable Energy Development Agency), reflecting a well-rounded understanding of both macroeconomic planning and grassroots administration.
Known for his deep policy insight, strategic thinking, and administrative rigor, Shri Tripathi has effectively led programs related to land revenue management, district development, public policy, and industrial planning. His leadership in multiple capacities across departments has earned him respect and recognition within the Indian bureaucracy as a forward-thinking and effective officer.
With his new assignment as Secretary, Higher Education, he is expected to bring fresh vision and systemic efficiency to one of the most critical departments in the state. His scientific background, coupled with his administrative experience, positions him well to drive reforms in curriculum design, institutional quality, and policy innovation aimed at empowering the youth of Uttar Pradesh.
