Shri Amit Meena IAS (Kerala 2011 ) presently Director in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has been given extension in the Central deputation tenure for a period of two years beyond 30.03.2026 and upto 30.03.2028 by The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The central deputation tenure of Shri Amit Meena is w.e.f. 31.03.2021.

Shri Amit Meena, IAS is an accomplished officer whose career reflects a balanced blend of technical acumen, administrative depth, and policy insight. A B.Tech graduate in Electronics from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, where he secured First Division, he brings to public service a strong foundation in analytical thinking and systems-oriented problem-solving. This academic grounding has consistently informed his structured and forward-looking approach within the Indian Bureaucracy.

His professional journey commenced with training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, where he imbibed the core values of integrity, impartiality, and public accountability. Thereafter, as Assistant Collector in Kannur and subsequently as Sub Collector, he gained hands-on experience in land revenue management and sub-divisional administration. These formative assignments exposed him to grassroots governance, sharpening his responsiveness to citizen needs and strengthening his administrative resolve.

Elevated to the role of Secretary at the Corporation of Cochin, Shri Meena demonstrated notable administrative coordination in urban local governance. His tenure reflected a measured emphasis on civic management and institutional efficiency, reinforcing the importance of transparent and citizen-centric service delivery.

As District Collector, he undertook one of the most demanding assignments in district administration. Steering land revenue management and overall district governance, he displayed calm leadership in coordinating inter-departmental efforts. His tenure as Collector was marked by pragmatic decision-making and a balanced approach to development priorities—qualities that earned him quiet appreciation among stakeholders.

In June 2019, Shri Meena moved to the Ministry of Power, serving as Director (Senior Time Scale) at Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT), Thiruvananthapuram. Here, he engaged with renewable energy initiatives and rural technology promotion. His technical background proved particularly valuable in navigating policy and implementation challenges in the non-conventional energy sector, aligning sustainable development goals with administrative feasibility.

Transitioning to the Government of India, he served in key capacities within the Ministry of Finance. As Deputy Secretary in the Department of Revenue and later in Economic Affairs, he handled sensitive finance and banking matters with discretion and clarity. His assignment as Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Finance further underscored the confidence reposed in him. In this role, he functioned at the intersection of policy formulation and political executive decision-making, ensuring smooth coordination and timely policy support.

Following a brief period on compulsory wait, he joined the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship as Deputy Secretary in August 2024 and was soon elevated to Director in January 2025. In this capacity, he has been associated with personnel and general administration functions at the national level. His stewardship reflects an understanding that skill development is central to India’s demographic dividend, and his methodical administrative style contributes to strengthening institutional frameworks within the Ministry.
