Shri Alok Vardhan Chaturvedi IAS (Bihar 1986) presently Director General (DG), Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) , has been given extension in the central deputation tenure beyond 18.06.2019 upto 30.09.2019. He joined as DGFT in July 2017 and prior to that he was Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce handling SEZ and Plantation Divisions since June 2016. He served as Joint Secretary (Infrastructure) in the Cabinet Secretariat for 4 years from June 2012 handling policy issues related to Infrastructure Ministries. Earlier from 1998 till 2004, he was Director in the Ministry of Civil Aviation handling Airports, Airlines and Bilateral Civil Aviation Agreements.
In the State Government of Bihar, Shri Chaturvedi was Secretary, Expenditure, Finance Department from January 2005 to May 2008. He also held the charge of Managing Director, Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation during 2005-2008. He was posted as Secretary, Information Technology and Science and Technology from May 2008 till December 2008 when he joined in Delhi as Resident Commissioner, Government of Bihar. In his earlier stint in the State Government of Bihar, he worked as Managing Director,Bihar State Textbook Publishing Corporation, Deputy Development Commissioner, Jehanabad, Joint Secretary, Urban Development and District Magistrate, Sahebganj.
Earlier in the career, in the State Government of Tripura, he worked as Sub Divisional Magistrate, Khowai, Additional District Magistrate, South Tripura District (Udaipur) and Managing Director, Tripura Tea Development Corporation.Prior to joining IAS, Shri Chaturvedi has also worked for sometime in Indian Railways as Assistant Signal and Telecommunication Engineer from 1984 and as Software Engineer at Tata Burroughs Limited from 1982 to 1984.
