Shri Alok Kumar IAS (Alok Kumar-III, Uttar Pradesh 1998), presently Principal Secretary, Planning and Programme Implementation, Uttar Pradesh with additional charge of Nodal Officer, One Trillion Dollar Economy and Nodal Officer, Zero Poverty Campaign, Uttar Pradesh, is given additional charge of Principal Secretary – IT and Electronics Department, Uttar Pradesh.
Shri Alok Kumar, an accomplished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), represents a fine blend of technical expertise, global academic exposure, and extensive administrative experience. An alumnus of engineering with a B.Tech in Civil Engineering, he further strengthened his intellectual foundation by pursuing an M.Sc. in Public Policy and Management from King’s College London, where he secured a First-class distinction. This rare combination of engineering precision and policy insight has shaped his approach to governance, enabling him to handle complex administrative challenges with clarity and foresight.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than two decades, Shri Alok Kumar has served in a wide range of critical roles across the Government of Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating versatility and depth in public administration. Currently serving as Principal Secretary in key departments such as Planning and Programme Implementation, he plays a vital role in shaping policy frameworks and ensuring effective execution of development initiatives in the state. His earlier tenure as Principal Secretary in Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs reflects his ability to manage large-scale public distribution systems with efficiency and accountability.
His experience in the Planning and Programme Implementation domain has been particularly noteworthy, where he has contributed to strengthening institutional mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation. His concurrent handling of Science & Technology at the senior level further highlights his capacity to integrate innovation-driven approaches into governance. At the district level, Shri Alok Kumar has an impressive record, having served as District Magistrate in several districts including Allahabad, Saharanpur, Aligarh, and others. His tenure as Municipal Commissioner in Lucknow and leadership roles in urban and rural development further enriched his administrative perspective.
His early career assignments, including roles as Chief Development Officer, Joint Magistrate, and CEO at the district level, laid a strong foundation for his later responsibilities.
