80 Countries converge in New Delhi for Global Symposium on Farmers’ Rights

President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will inaugurate the inaugural ‘Global Symposium on Farmers’ Rights’ (GSFR) at the ICAR Convention Centre in New Delhi. Notable attendees include Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, and Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Kailash Choudhary.

The GSFR, organised by the Secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (FAO), Rome, in collaboration with various Indian agricultural bodies, will convene experts, farmers, and resource persons from over 80 countries. The symposium aims to discuss and recognize the vital contributions of local and indigenous communities and farmers worldwide in conserving and developing plant genetic resources. Farmers’ Rights, as outlined in Article 9 of the International Treaty, will be a central topic of discussion. The event, hosted by India, will run from September 12 to 15, 2023, with several initiatives and awards to be presented during the inauguration ceremony.
