17 West Bengal IAS Reshuffle – Key Administrative Changes Across Departments and Districts
In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Government of West Bengal has transferred and posted several Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across various departments and districts in the state. The latest round of postings reflects the state government’s continued focus on strengthening governance, improving administrative efficiency, and ensuring effective implementation of developmental initiatives across sectors including urban administration, public management, consumer affairs, textiles, district administration, and information services.
Among the major appointments, Shri Sujay Sarkar IAS (West Bengal 2010), who was serving as Commissioner of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of Textiles & Sericulture with additional charge of Managing Director, Tantuja, West Bengal. His new assignment is expected to strengthen the state’s textile and sericulture sectors, which play an important role in employment generation and promotion of traditional industries.
Shri Nitin Singhania IAS (West Bengal 2013), previously serving as Chief Executive Officer of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, has been appointed as Senior Special Secretary, Home & Hill Affairs Department. He has also been given the responsibility of Member Secretary, Centre of Excellence in Public Management and Course Director, Satyendranath Tagore Civil Services Study Centre. The posting is considered significant in view of the increasing emphasis on administrative reforms and capacity building in governance.
Dr Rajat Nanda IAS (West Bengal 2013), who was serving as Senior Special Secretary, P. & A.R. Department along with additional responsibilities in the Centre of Excellence in Public Management and Cabinet Secretariat, has now been entrusted with the additional charge of Director, Information, Information & Cultural Affairs Department. His appointment is expected to strengthen communication and public information management within the state administration.
In another important transfer, Shri Hindole Datta IAS (West Bengal 2014), who was serving as Associate Professor at Netaji Subhas Administrative Training Institute, has been appointed Commissioner of Asansol Municipal Corporation. Asansol being one of the major urban and industrial centres of West Bengal, the posting carries considerable administrative importance.
At the district administration level, several Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) have been reshuffled. Shri Shaikh Ansar Ahamad IAS (West Bengal 2016), formerly ADM Malda, has been posted as ADM Paschim Medinipur. Shri Dhiman Barai IAS (West Bengal 2016), earlier ADM Purba Bardhaman, has been appointed as Special Secretary, TET & SD Department.
Shri Prashant Raj Shukla IAS (West Bengal 2017), previously ADM South 24-Parganas, has been transferred as ADM Bankura. Similarly, Shri Suman Sourav Mohanty IAS (West Bengal 2017), who was serving as ADM Uttar Dinajpur, has been posted as ADM Paschim Bardhaman. Shri Rajesh IAS (West Bengal 2017), earlier ADM Dakshin Dinajpur, has now been transferred as ADM Jalpaiguri.
Another notable change includes the posting of Shri Ravi Agarwal IAS (West Bengal 2017), who has been transferred from the post of ADM Purulia and appointed Commissioner of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation. His appointment comes at a time when urban infrastructure and municipal governance remain key priorities for the state administration.
Smt Priyadarshini S IAS (West Bengal 2017), formerly ADM Howrah, has been transferred and posted as Special Secretary, Consumer Affairs Department. Her new assignment is expected to contribute towards strengthening consumer protection and public distribution-related administration.
Among the 2018 batch officers, Shri Lakshmana Perumal R IAS has been moved from ADM Bankura to ADM Jhargram, while Smt Shinjan Shekhar IAS has been transferred from ADM Jalpaiguri to ADM Howrah. Both districts hold strategic administrative significance due to their developmental and governance priorities.
Smt Archana Pandharinath Wankhede IAS (West Bengal 2019), who was serving as ADM Nadia, has been posted as ADM Purba Medinipur. The district continues to witness substantial development activities, making the role important for implementation and monitoring of various government programmes.
The reshuffle also includes postings of officers from the 2020 batch. Shri Manjeet Kumar Yadav IAS has been transferred from ADM Bankura to ADM South 24-Parganas, while Shri Saurav Pandey IAS has been shifted from ADM Uttar Dinajpur to ADM Paschim Medinipur.
Ms Ekam J Singh IAS (West Bengal 2020), presently serving as ADM Paschim Medinipur, has been transferred and posted as ADM Bankura. The appointment is expected to further strengthen district administration and governance mechanisms in the region.
The latest administrative changes indicate the state government’s emphasis on deploying experienced officers in key administrative positions to improve governance delivery and administrative coordination.
