The National Health Authority (NHA) achieved a significant milestone by generating more than 1 crore tokens for OPD (Out-Patient Department) registrations using the ABHA-based Scan and Share service. Launched under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) in October 2022, this paperless service enables patients to scan the QR code at the OPD registration counter, instantly sharing their ABHA profile for registration. The service is active in over 2,600 health facilities across 419 districts in 33 States and Union Territories in India.

Key points:

  1. Usage Statistics: The ABDM Public Dashboard shows that the service is widely adopted, with maximum usage reported at AIIMS in Delhi, Bhopal, and Raipur. Nine out of the top fifteen hospitals using this service are from Uttar Pradesh.
  2. Rapid Adoption: The Scan and Share service has been quickly adopted by states and UTs to manage queues at registration counters, providing a better experience for patients.
  3. Top Performing Facilities: Government hospitals like AIIMS, New Delhi, SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, and AIIMS in Raipur are among the top-performing health facilities using the Scan and Share service.
  4. Digital Health Incentive Scheme (DHIS): NHA offers incentives for Scan and Share transactions through ABDM’s Digital Health Incentive Scheme, encouraging the adoption of this digital service by hospitals and Digital Solution Companies (DSCs).

CEO of NHA emphasized the importance of digital services, stating that ABDM aims to enhance healthcare delivery efficiency. The Scan and Share service not only saves patients time but also contributes to a more seamless healthcare experience. The plan is to extend this service to pharmacy counters and laboratories, providing patients with digital access to prescriptions, pharmacy slips, and diagnostic reports. The initiative aligns with the goal of leveraging technology to assist diverse groups of citizens in accessing healthcare services, including the elderly, pregnant women, and others.
