Indian Bureaucracy News, Lucknow, September 10, 2025| The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on September 9, 2025, ordered transfer of twenty-eight IPS officers. The reshuffle, confined to nine important locations with an intent to reconfigure of the state’s policing apparatus.

The Police Headquarters in Lucknow emerged as the central node of this exercise, absorbing the bulk of postings. Eighteen officers have been reassigned to the city, many of them to specialised units that deal with systemic vulnerabilities — Anti-Corruption, Railway Police, Women and Child Safety, Special Security Force, Cyber Crime, and the Anti-Terrorism Squad. The concentration of transfers in the capital signals the government’s intent to tighten command and control where political and administrative stakes are the highest.

Beyond Lucknow, the intelligence network has also been strengthened. New Regional Intelligence Officers have been deputed to Kanpur, Ayodhya, Bareilly and Gorakhpur — districts often at the intersection of communal, electoral, and security challenges. These moves are part of the larger administration priority on pre-emptive surveillance and intelligence-led policing in sensitive urban centres.

At the operational level, five new battalion commanders have been appointed across the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). The PAC remains the state’s principal reserve force for riot control, crowd management, and reinforcement of local policing in times of strain. Fresh leadership at this level is likely aimed at improving responsiveness and field coordination.

For the purpose of clarity, the editorial team has presented the reshuffle in a structured manner — mapping postings location-wise and aligning officers with their new assignments. The effort is to enable readers to discern the broader design behind these movements, including the concentration of changes in Lucknow, the reinforcement of intelligence in key cities, and the reallocation of personnel to specialised units.
