In Uttar Pradesh, government has set up a Special Investigation Team to probe into incidents of Saharanpur caste violence. The newly constituted SIT will probe into the series of incidents of violence and arson reported from 5 to 23 May in the district. A total of 40 FIRs are lodged by the police in the connection with these incidents.

Lucknow correspondent reports that the caste violence in the district has left three youth dead and several injured. No fresh incident of violence is reported for last three days. About 60 persons have been arrested till now for their alleged involvement in the incidents of violence.

Large numbers of security forces including 10 companies of Rapid Action Force are deployed to maintain the peace and law and order. District Administration on Saturday did not allow the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit the violence hit village Shabbirpur and sent him back from UP Haryana border at Yamunanagar district in Haryana.

The Government has already suspended District Magistrate and District Police Chief Saharanpur and transferred Divisional Commissioner and DIG police following the incidents. A team of four senior officers is camping Saharanpur to bring the normalcy and maintain law and order in the istrict.
