Shri Tarun Kumar Pithode, a distinguished and multi-faceted civil servant, has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. Shri Pithode’s illustrious career spans corporate, railway, and administrative service, reflecting his exceptional versatility, intellectual acumen, and unwavering commitment to public welfare. A technocrat by training, he earned dual Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Electronics and Communication from Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal (RGPV), graduating First with Distinction, and in Communication Engineering from RGPV.
Before joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Shri Pithode began his professional journey as a software engineer with General Electric (GE) and served with distinction as an IRSSE officer in the Indian Railways. His transition to the IAS marked the beginning of a stellar administrative career characterized by impactful leadership and innovative governance.
Throughout his IAS tenure, Shri Pithode has held several critical roles in Madhya Pradesh, demonstrating exceptional competence in both district administration and state-level governance. He served as Sub Divisional Magistrate and later as District Collector and District Magistrate in Rajgarh, Sehore, Betul, and Bhopal, where his visionary leadership ensured efficient administration, citizen-centric policies, and effective land revenue management. As Chief Executive Officer of Zila Panchayat Khandwa, he strengthened local governance and spearheaded developmental initiatives. He also contributed as Additional Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Urban and Village Network (MPUVN), Project Director of the State Wide Area Network, and Director of the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, showcasing his ability to manage complex projects with clarity and efficiency.
Shri Pithode further demonstrated exemplary leadership in public sector enterprises and state departments. He served as Director of Food and Civil Supplies, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Warehousing and Logistic Corporation, and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation. Additionally, he held the position of Commissioner of Medical Education, overseeing critical sectors with vision and integrity. In his current tenure as Director of Climate Change in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, he is contributing significantly to India’s climate policy, environmental sustainability, and strategic initiatives.
Beyond his administrative excellence, Shri Pithode is a prolific author, having penned six insightful books: I M Possible, Happiness: A New Model of Human Behaviour, Tootte Rishte Darakte Ghar, The Battle Against Covid, Operation Ganga, and Master Your Destiny: Lessons from Lohani. These works reflect his deep understanding of human behavior, leadership, resilience, and societal challenges.
