TN Police 20 IPS Reshuffle Indian Bureaucracy

Indian Bureaucracy News, Chennai, March 01, 2026 | The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday issued transfer and posting order covering over 20 police officers across ranks, from Director General of Police (DGP) to Superintendents of Police (SP) and city Deputy Commissioners. While limited in scale relative to the size of the State police, the reshuffle touches a mix of field, range and specialised assignments.

At the senior level, IPS officers from the 1992, 1995 and 1996 batches have taken charge as Head of Railway Security, Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC), and Director of Civil Defence and Home Guards respectively. Meanwhile, at the Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General levels, officers have been rotated across ranges—Coimbatore, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram—and urban formations, including Tirunelveli City and Tambaram Commissionerate.

A notable feature of the order is the number of reciprocal transfers. Several postings effectively involve officers exchanging positions between city and range assignments, technical and field roles, and district commands, allowing vacancies created by one transfer to be filled simultaneously by another. This approach reduces interim gaps and avoids prolonged additional charges.

The reshuffle also covers specialised wings such as Cyber Crimes, Enforcement, Railways and the Central Intelligence Unit. Younger batch officers continue in cyber and technical roles, while senior officers oversee vigilance and supervisory formations. Women officers are represented across levels, from IG and DIG ranks to SP and DCP postings.

Officials described the exercise as part of routine administrative adjustments aimed at maintaining tenure balance and operational continuity across formations.
