Indian Bureaucracy News, Chennai, June 22, 2026 | In a major bureaucratic shake-up on Friday, the Tamil Nadu government rang in significant changes at the top ranks of the state police force, moving around 14 senior IPS officers in a bid to reshuffle the deck across the capital, the state headquarters, and various specialised units.
The order set off a chain reaction of transfers, touching everything from the high-stakes corridors of the Greater Chennai Police to the sensitive Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and the Idol Wing at CID. The reshuffle is amongst one of the early major police overhaul under new Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, whose TVK party stormed to power in a landmark election, signals the administration’s intent to strengthen street-level policing while bulking up units that investigate financial fraud and idol theft.
Among the biggest moves, senior officer Ayush Mani Tiwari, who was serving with TANGEDCO, has been pulled back to the Police Headquarters. In another high-profile shift, Madurai’s top cop, Kapilkumar C Saratkar, has been handed the reins as the Additional Commissioner (Law & Order-North) for the Chennai city police, a crucial role in the state’s bustling capital. Several other senior officers have been shuffled across operational, investigative and administrative posts, setting off a wider reorganisation within the police force that is likely to shape the state’s law-enforcement approach in the coming months.
