Shri Swaminathan S Iyer, currently the Executive Vice President, Head of Legal, Company Secretary, and Regulatory Affairs & ESG at Tata AIA Life Insurance Company Limited, has been appointed as the Whole-Time Member (Life Insurance) in the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). The Government of India made the appointment under Section 4 of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 1999, for a tenure of five years or until he attains the age of 62, whichever is earlier. He will receive a consolidated pay package of ₹5 lakh per month, without the facility of a house and car.
Mr S Swaminathan (ACS, LLB) is a veteran in India’s life insurance sector with 34 years of experience in financial services. He currently serves as Executive Vice President – Legal, Company Secretarial, Regulatory Affairs & ESG at Tata AIA Life Insurance Company Limited and was previously Senior Vice President – Legal & Compliance and Company Secretary at HDFC Life. Having spent over 16 years with the HDFC Group and 11 years with the Tata Group, he plays a key role in shaping industry governance and regulatory frameworks. A member of the Institute of Directors and a life member of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (Ministry of Corporate Affairs), he is also an avid sports enthusiast, percussionist, and a trained faculty in stress management programs with the Art of Living Foundation.
