Dr. Soumya Swaminathan presently Director General, ICMR- cum- Secretary, Department of Health Research to take up the foreign Assignment of the post has been appointed as Deputy Director General for Programmes (DDP), WHO, Geneve, Switzerland for the period from 01.12.2017 to 18.11.2019.
Dr Swaminathan is a medical graduate (MBBS) from Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. She completed MD (Paediatrics) in 1985 from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; Dip NB (Paediatrics) / MNAMS (Member of National Academy of Medical Sciences), National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi in 1987; and Fellowship in Neonatology and Paediatric Pulmonology in 1989 from Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, University of Southern California, US.
