Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani flagged off Digital Rath in New Delhi to create awareness among people for cashless transaction. Interacting with the traders, Mrs Irani said, digital transactions have increased sharply after demonetization.

She said, UPI transactions have increased from 3.8 million in April to 77 million in October this year, which is a huge growth. The Minister said, small merchants are the backbone of Indian economy and a less-cash society will bring more transparency.

Speaking on the occasion, national secretary of the Confederations of All India Traders (CAIT) Praveen Khandelwal said, the digital rath will travel from Delhi to Lucknow, then Kolkata, Puducherry, Mumbai and Bhopal till 31st of next month. He said, it will travel 20 thousand kilo-metre and will reach 10 lakh people.
