SJVN celebrated 3rd International Yoga Day on 21st June 2017. The event was jointly organized by SJVN and Rotary Club, Shimla. His Excellency Acharya DevVrat Ji, Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh graced the occasion with his presence. Sh N L Sharma Director (Personnel) SJVN was also present along with other senior officials of SJVN. Officials of Rotary Club Sh Manu Aggarwal President, Sh Sachin Verma Secretary, Sh Kapil Mahashe Chairman and Sh V P Kalta Co-Chairman and other members were also present. The celebrations included mass yoga performance by school children and teachers of more than 15 schools, general public and employees of SJVN & members of Rotary Club.

On the occasion, Acharya DevVrat Ji, Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh said that yoga is a way of living that aims at achieving healthy mind in a healthy body. He further said that Yoga is a gift from India to the World which promotes holistic well being by purifying and integrating body, mind and spirit. He urged the gathering to make yoga an integral part of life and adopt a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature.

Sh N L Sharma Director (Personnel) SJVN Ltd in his welcome address said on the occasion that man is a physical, mental and spiritual being and yoga helps to promote a balanced development of all the three. He further added that by raising awareness amongst the children – our future generations, SJVN is doing its bit to augment efforts towards better physical, mental and spiritual health. Earlier during the week, with a view to spread the importance and benefits of yoga for a healthier lifestyle amongst the masses, SJVN organized yoga sessions in more than 50 schools at Shimla and its project locations across the country wherein about 51000 students and other persons learnt to practice yoga.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on 21st June since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014 and the idea of an International Day of Yoga was the first proposed by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh Narendra Modi in September 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice attributed mostly to India.
