The National Industrial Corridor Development Programme is a major initiative by the Indian government aimed at building new industrial cities competitive with top manufacturing hubs worldwide. As part of this effort, the government is working on several industrial corridor projects, which are expected to boost job creation and economic growth, leading to better living standards for many people.
In total, there are 32 projects planned in four phases, covering eleven corridors as part of the National Infrastructure Pipeline. These corridors include various routes, such as Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), Vizag-Chennai, Odisha Economic Corridor, and Delhi-Nagpur Industrial Corridor, among others. This ambitious program aims to transform India’s industrial landscape.
For example, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) will rely on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor for transportation, while the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor will support the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC). Other corridors, like the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) and the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC), will use National Highway 4 as their main transport route. The East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) will be served by National Highway 5 and the Kolkata-Chennai rail route.
