Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi IAS (Odisha 1994) presently Secretary- Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has been given additional charge as Chairman & Managing Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd., Ministry of New & Renewable Energy , till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders.
An alumnus with an M.Phil. in Political Science, Shri Sarangi has consistently demonstrated academic distinction and a deep understanding of governance, policy, and development. Over his illustrious career spanning more than three decades, he has held several key positions across the central and state governments, showcasing his versatility and commitment to public service. His most prominent roles include Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), where he spearheaded India’s foreign trade policy implementation, and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Education, where he contributed to strengthening school education policy and delivery.
In the Government of Odisha, Shri Sarangi has served with distinction in a variety of capacities, including as Principal Secretary, Science & Technology, Commissioner & Secretary, SC & ST Development Department, and District Collector in multiple districts, where he earned a reputation for integrity, innovation, and grassroots impact. He has also led several public sector undertakings such as the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC), Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC), and Orissa Milk Federation (OMFED), combining developmental objectives with financial prudence.
His contributions to sectors as varied as commerce, tourism, dairy, social justice, food distribution, and mining reflect a rare breadth of administrative acumen. He also held additional charge as Chairman of the Tea Board, adding another prestigious feather to his cap.
