Dr Santanu Kumar Agrahari IAS (Jharkhand 2012) presently Private Secretary (Deputy Secretary Level) to the Minister of State for Jal Shakti & Railways (Shri V Somanna) has been re-designated as Private Secretary (Director level) to the same Minister in the D/o Drinking Water & Sanitation with effect from 01.01.2026 for a period up to 28.11.2026 . The central deputation tenure of Shri Santanu Kumar Agrahari is w.e.f. 29.11.2021.
Dr. Santanu Kumar Agrahari, IAS, is a distinguished civil servant known for his balanced blend of administrative competence, medical training, and people-centric governance. Belonging to the Indian Administrative Service, he has built a diverse career across district administration, urban governance, food and civil supplies, home affairs, and central ministries, reflecting both versatility and adaptability. An alumnus of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra, and S. N. Medical College, where he earned his MBBS degree with First Division in Medicine, Dr. Agrahari brings a strong scientific and analytical foundation to public administration, which has consistently informed his approach to policy implementation and service delivery.
Dr. Agrahari began his administrative journey after completing his foundational training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, during 2012–2013. His early field postings laid a strong base in grassroots governance. He served as Assistant Collector and Assistant Magistrate in Palamu, where he gained firsthand exposure to land revenue management, law and order, and public grievance redressal. This was followed by his role as Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO/SDM), Latehar, where he handled complex administrative responsibilities in a challenging district environment, demonstrating calm decision-making and procedural clarity.
Dr. Agrahari subsequently served as District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner in Jamtara and West Singhbhum (Chaibassa), roles that placed him at the helm of district administration. In these assignments, he was responsible for overall governance, coordination of development schemes, revenue administration, disaster management, and maintenance of law and order. His tenure was marked by structured administrative functioning and close monitoring of welfare programmes, reflecting his ability to balance developmental priorities with regulatory responsibilities.

Dr. Agrahari’s administrative range further expanded when he served as Civil Defence Commissioner, Ranchi, and subsequently as Director (Census Operations) under the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Centre. From November 2021 to June 2024, Dr. Agrahari served as Private Secretary to the Minister in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, at the level of Deputy Secretary. In this role, he worked closely with senior political leadership, contributing to policy coordination, parliamentary work, and administrative decision-making. His role demanded discretion, efficiency, and a deep understanding of governmental processes. Since 18 November 2024, Dr. Santanu Kumar Agrahari has been serving as Private Secretary to the Minister of State, Ministry of Jal Shakti, at the Deputy Secretary level.
