Sanjeev Vohra appointed as CEO- Polavaram Project Authority
Shri Sanjeev Vohra presently General Manager- Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO)- Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) is a statutory body established by the Government of India to oversee the execution of the Polavaram Irrigation Project, a national project located in Andhra Pradesh. The authority functions under the Ministry of Jal Shakti and plays a central role in coordinating, monitoring, and ensuring the timely completion of the project.
The PPA was constituted following the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which declared the Polavaram Project as a national project. Its primary mandate is to manage the technical, financial, and administrative aspects of the project, including fund allocation, construction oversight, and inter-state coordination.
The Polavaram Project itself is a multipurpose irrigation project on the Godavari River, aimed at providing irrigation benefits, drinking water supply, and hydroelectric power generation. It is also designed to facilitate inter-basin water transfer and flood control.
The Authority works closely with the Government of Andhra Pradesh and other stakeholders to address challenges such as rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced families, environmental clearances, and infrastructure development.
