Shri Sachin Mittal IPoS (2000) has been appointed as Joint Secretary- Lokpal under the Department of Personnel & Training for a tenure of five years by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The Joint Secretary, Lokpal of India is a senior officer entrusted with key administrative and institutional responsibilities in supporting the functioning of the Lokpal of India, the country’s apex anti-corruption ombudsman established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. The position plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient administration of the institution while facilitating the Lokpal’s mandate of promoting transparency, accountability and integrity in public administration.
As one of the senior-most officers in the Lokpal Secretariat, the Joint Secretary assists the Chairperson and Members of the Lokpal in matters relating to administration, policy coordination and institutional management. In recent years, digital governance has become increasingly important within statutory institutions. The Joint Secretary supports the adoption of technology-enabled systems for file management, grievance handling, record digitisation and secure information management, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and institutional transparency.
The position also involves coordinating parliamentary matters, replies to parliamentary questions, audit observations, annual reports and interactions with constitutional and statutory authorities. The Joint Secretary facilitates inter-departmental consultations and ensures timely submission of reports and official communications.
