Policy of the Government is not to raise any regiment on the basis of a particular class, creed, community, religion or region, but to have an Army in which all Indians have representation.
Regiments are raised keeping in view national security scenario, threat assessment and operational necessity. However, some of the regiments have been constituted with a view to enhancing cohesion and war fighting potential.
