Rajnath Singh reviews the LWE scenario in Andhra Pradesh

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh reviewed the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) scenario in Andhra Pradesh at a meeting with senior officials in Vishakhapatnam . Addressing the meeting the Union Home Minister said that the LWE situation has shown massive improvement in the recent months throughout the country with the number of LWE incidents coming down.

Highlighting the achievements of the security agencies, Shri Rajnath Singh said that the spread of LWE affected districts declined to 141 in 2015 from 162 districts in 2014. He said that the security agencies and the developmental programmes and policies of the government deserve the credit for this improved scenario.

Praising the role of Andhra Pradesh police in leading the fight in LWE affected areas, he assured the state of all possible help from the Centre. Shri Rajnath Singh underlined the importance of Inter-State cooperation of Andhra Pradesh with the neighbouring states and appreciated the recent successes of Andhra Pradesh police and its agencies in Inter-State operations.

Shri Rajnath Singh said the Centre has approved construction of fortified police stations in the state. Andhra Pradesh has completed the construction of 11 fortified police stations and the work is under progress in three fortified police stations. The MHA has also approved one extra battalion of BSF to Andhra Pradesh. The Union Home Minister assured the state of the fast implementation of the decision.

Under the second phase of Road Requirement Plan (RRP-2), the Centre has approved the construction of 1,200 Kms in Andhra Pradesh out of total 5,400 Kms of roads in the country. The communication network in LWE areas of Andhra Pradesh has been strengthened. Out of 53 mobile towers allotted in the first phase, 33 are already activated and the remaining 20 are under construction.
