Rajesh Panwar IES appointed Director – DPIIT
Shri Rajesh Panwar IES (2012) has been appointed as Director in the Department of Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Delhi for a period of five years.
Shri Rajesh Panwar is a distinguished officer of the Indian Economic Service (IES) presently serving as Director in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. With extensive experience in economic administration, financial policy, and industrial governance, he has served in several important assignments across the Government of India.
Shri Rajesh Panwar assumed charge as Director in DPIIT in December 2025. In his present role, he is associated with policy matters related to industrial development, investment promotion, and internal trade reforms. DPIIT plays a crucial role in promoting industrial growth, improving ease of doing business, supporting startups, and facilitating investments in India’s rapidly evolving economic landscape.
Prior to his present assignment, Shri Panwar served in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, where he held several significant responsibilities. Since May 2022, he has been serving as Joint Director in the Financial Market Division at North Block, New Delhi. In this role, he has been involved in matters relating to financial markets, economic policy coordination, and regulatory frameworks within the Ministry of Finance.
Earlier, he also served as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs from January 2025 to December 2025. During this tenure, he contributed to policy formulation and implementation concerning India’s financial sector and economic administration.
From April 2017 to June 2022, Shri Rajesh Panwar worked as Deputy Director in the Ministry of Finance. His tenure in the Ministry provided him with extensive exposure to fiscal management, economic governance, and public financial systems. His experience in handling policy and administrative matters strengthened his expertise in economic affairs and government functioning.
Interestingly, Shri Panwar’s association with DPIIT began earlier in his career when he served as Assistant Director in the department from November 2013 to April 2017. During this period, he handled assignments related to industrial policy, investment facilitation, and administrative coordination, contributing towards initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s industrial ecosystem.
Before joining central government economic administration, Shri Rajesh Panwar served as Sub-Inspector in the Delhi Police Department from April 2005 to September 2012. His policing experience helped him develop leadership, field administration, and public management skills, which later proved valuable in his administrative and policy-oriented assignments.
Academically, Shri Rajesh Panwar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Dayal Singh College. His educational background in commerce laid the foundation for his subsequent career in economics, finance, and public administration.
