Polling has begun for Panchayat Elections in six districts of Manipur. These districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Kakching and Thoubal. More than seven lakh and 16 thousand voters will exercise their franchise today to elect 60 Zila Parishad Members, 158 Gram Panchayat Pradhans and 1118 Gram Panchayat Ward Members.
Long queues are seen in front of several polling stations of the two districts of Imphal much before the polling began. Reports received from Jiribam, Bishnupur, Kakching and Thoubal Districts also show similar turnout of voters.
Polling, which began at 8 AM, will end at 4 PM. Counting of votes will be taken up on the 11th of this month.
