During the 44th ISO COPOLCO Plenary in New Delhi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the importance of quality in meeting the demands of today’s consumers. He emphasized that consumer rights, safety, and satisfaction are closely tied to quality and play a vital role in the globalized and technology-driven world. Goyal mentioned that consumer protection is an integral part of governance and the government is focused on bringing back this consciousness. He stated that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, recognizes the significance of consumer prosperity and protection, and efforts are being made to establish a responsive administration.

Goyal emphasized the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as crucial players in elevating India’s stature and achieving greater heights. He noted that the government’s focus has been on regaining India’s lost glory, strengthening its story, attracting investments, expanding international trade, and making India a key player on the global stage. Goyal stressed that the growth of businesses, international trade, and the ability to attract investments are contingent on having happy and satisfied consumers.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Goyal emphasized the importance of customers and their expectations. He highlighted India’s position as the fifth largest economy in the world, with the potential to become the third largest in the coming years. Goyal acknowledged India’s talent pool and skills as its strengths, and under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become a recognized “bright spot” that other countries want to trade with.

The 44th ISO COPOLCO Plenary was inaugurated by Piyush Goyal, with the presence of other dignitaries including Union Ministers Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, ISO Secretary General Sergio Mujica, and senior officials from the Department of Consumer Affairs and BIS.
