Shri Piyush Bhagwanrao Salunkhe IAS (West Bengal 2018) presently Additional District Magistrate, Malda has been transferred and posted as Joint Secretary- Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department, West Bengal.

Shri Piyush Bhagwanrao Salunkhe, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the West Bengal cadre, represents a new generation of civil servants who combine strong technical education with a commitment to responsive and efficient governance. With an academic foundation in engineering and experience in district administration, health governance and public service delivery, he has steadily built a reputation for professionalism, adaptability and administrative competence.

Shri Salunkhe possesses an impressive academic record. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) from the College of Technology, University of Pune, graduating with First Class honours. He further earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Pune, securing First Class with Distinction. His engineering education has equipped him with analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities and a systematic approach to decision-making—qualities that have proved valuable in public administration.

After joining the Indian Administrative Service, Shri Salunkhe underwent the rigorous training designed to prepare officers for leadership roles in governance. His early field exposure came as Assistant Collector and Assistant Magistrate in the Office of the District Magistrate and Collector, Purulia, in 2019. This assignment introduced him to the functioning of district administration, land revenue management, implementation of government welfare programmes and coordination among various departments. It provided valuable practical experience in grassroots governance and citizen-centric administration.

In 2020, he was appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal. During this tenure, he gained exposure to one of the most critical sectors of public administration, supporting initiatives related to healthcare delivery, administrative coordination and implementation of health policies. Working in the health sector during a period of heightened public health challenges further strengthened his understanding of inter-departmental coordination and responsive governance.

Since 7 July 2021, Shri Salunkhe has been serving as the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Jalpaiguri. As the administrative head of a subdivision, he oversees a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including land revenue administration, maintenance of law and order, implementation of development programmes, disaster management, election-related duties and delivery of essential public services. The role requires close coordination with local bodies, government departments and community stakeholders to ensure efficient governance at the grassroots level.

Throughout his career, Shri Piyush Bhagwanrao Salunkhe has demonstrated the ability to adapt quickly to diverse administrative responsibilities while maintaining a citizen-focused approach. His strong academic background in engineering, coupled with his experience in district administration and public health, enables him to address governance challenges with clarity, innovation and efficiency. As he continues his journey in the Indian Administrative Service, Shri Salunkhe remains committed to strengthening public institutions, improving service delivery and contributing to inclusive and sustainable development in West Bengal.
